“Every story has an origin. For THE EXTINCTION CYCLE, it’s RED LINE—A chilling and heart-pounding novel that grabs and won’t let go!”
—USAToday Best Selling Author Nicholas Sansbury Smith, creator of the The Extinction Cycle series.

For a dozen years, villagers along the ancient Da River in Vietnam have feared a nightmarish creature who hunts and consumes human flesh. Only in whispers do they mention its name, The White Ghost. The ghost is what’s left of Marine Lieutenant Trevor Brett, a chemically engineered experiment gone wrong. Now, as he stalks the jungle for prey, the men who made him into the monster he’s become are hunting him. His end was just the beginning.

RED LINE is a novel length story set in The Extinction Cycle world.

Extinction Cycle Red Line Worlds eBook Tom Abrahams

As an avid reader of Nick Smith’s highly successful Extinction Cycle series, I welcomed this opportunity to more about Lieutenant Brett and the folks who started the chain of events in 1968 that would wipe out most of humanity over 30 years later. Tom Abrahams grabbed my attention on the first page and never let go in this fast-paced book.
As a Vietnam veteran, Lt. Brett was an interesting and tragic figure to me. He loyally carried out what he thought were lawful orders and was rewarded with a life of hell. I also could relate to Nick Womack, a veteran who became a freelancer, when “he couldn’t shake the horrors of that place.” I, too, think about Vietnam every day.
The author also provides more information on that wretched individual, Captain / Major Rick Gibson. One of his statements, “The survival of the many requires the sacrifice of a few” reminded me of the quote by Spock on Star Trek, “The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.” Another nice touch by the author is when one of the team going in to capture the creature that was once Lt. Brett makes the observation that “It’s like we’re on the Nostromo…the spaceship from Alien.”
The efforts of reporter Jimmy Linh to do a story on the White Ghost (Lt. Brett) who had been killing Vietnamese villagers for 12 years was riveting.
Two criticisms: A minor one is the use of the security designation “EYES ONLY CLASSIFIED.” No such security classification exists in the U.S. intelligence community. A major criticism is the presence of a vast CIA underground complex only 15 kilometers from Hanoi. There mere existence of such a facility during and after the war strains credulity.
I thoroughly enjoyed this novella and plan to explore other works by Tom Abrahams. If you have not yet read any of the Extinction Cycle books, I recommend that you start with Extinction Horizon by Nicholas Sansbury Smith and then read this novella.

Extinction Cycle Red Line Worlds eBook Tom Abrahams Reviews

I was so excited to hear about Red Line. I stayed up all night reading it! Lt. Brett’s prequel story is absolutely amazing! The way the author describes him and his thoughts when he is hunting is so real that I feel likes I've turned into a variant. This is the first book I've read in the new Worlds for the Extinction Cycle. There are already 12 more to read and I can't wait to read them also!

If you have t read any of the Extinction Cycle books you're missing out. Start out with Extinction Horizon by Nicholas Sansbury Smith!
Loved this story about Brett the first VX-99 Marine. I can't wait to read more of the Worlds books!
Another great book to add to the Extinction Cycle series!! Read it nearly straight through. Fast pace action with lots of surprises as usual.
This was a most excellent addition to the extinction cycle. Very good insight into several beginnings in the series. Well done!!!
Great author and fantastic addition to the Extinction Universe. Dynamic and engaging storytelling. So hard to put down!
Excellent prequel to the Extinction Cycle Series! I loved the characters and their roles in this story. I especially liked the description of Lt. Brett's experiences from the character's own perspective. I appreciated getting an idea of what the Variant goes through during the transition and as time goes on. A great complement to the series!
A truly worthy beginning!

Nicholas Sansbury Smith's 'Extinction Cycle' begins with the fate of a single Marine. The product of devastatingly failed attempt to create a sort of "super soldier" was left but not forgotten in the jungles of Vietnam. This story tells the tale of what really happened to Lieutenant Trevor Brett and what was eventually unleashed upon the world.

Tom Abrahams writes a fantastic tale to compliment the original series in epic style! His words blend seamlessly with the incomparable 'Extinction Cycle' series. A perfect companion piece to the original story. Exceptionally well done!
